French Kissin’

This is the story of how my song “French Kissin’” was written. I was living in what I would consider to be a band house. A band house is a home shared by musicians for the purpose of being together as much as possible, being surrounded by music and feeling free to create music whenever the muse speaks to you. I was taking a quick shower. Meanwhile, in the living room, Mike was playing his guitar. His riff was bouncy, colorful and it made me think of fun times. I thought about the relationship that one of my friends once had with a fun-loving girl. This girl was always laughing, always instigating and always ready for adventure. She was part of the crew. She loved to party. As I was lathering up in the shower the words just came to me

“She comes around like no other,

Deep in her eyes, the windows to the Soul, I must agree with her gifted point of view,

Love to give the love you give and pull another Tube,

We’ve got a place we can call our own, she likes French Kissin’ when her mind is blown,

And when I held her tight her aura shone, She likes French Kissin’ when her Mind is Blown”

I knew I had a song. I needed to share it with Mike immediately before the words were lost. I didn’t even bother to raise the soap off my body. I wrapped a towel around my waist, burst out of the bathroom and cried “I’ve got it”. Stunned, Mike stopped playing. I said “don’t stop playing. I just wrote a song” He went back to the riff, and I wrote two more verses. We made a quick recording to preserve the vibe.

Then he asked me If I would please get dressed.
